Well, I've been at the ranch for 2 1/2 weeks now! Time is going pretty quick! It's a pretty easy job, riding horses all day what could be better? Right now we have 6 guests out at the ranch. A typical day when we have guests goes something like this: Jake (the other wrangler) and I bring horses in before breakfast and get them caught and tied up in the barn. This past week we have been out at the barn at 5 every morning because the horses are in a far pasture. Then we go in for breakfast at 6. We always have a delicious breakfast usually consisting of eggs, pancakes, bacon or sausage, and usually some kind of fruit. Around seven we go down to the barn with the guests and get everyone's horses grained, brushed and saddled, and are usually riding by 8. We then take them on a ride somewhere up in the mountains. Then we are back sometime between 11 & noon, just in time for lunch (which is at noon). Lunch is the largest meal of the day here because all the ranch hands eat lunch in the lodge. Then depending on the weather and how saddle sore the guests are, we either go riding in the afternoon, or one day during the week we take them into the town of Elko to see the sights. There is a really nice western tack store that we always stop by and the Western Folk Life Center that has a gallery of handcrafted saddles, bridles, bits and reigns. I think the most expensive saddle in there is $24,000! Then we come back for dinner at 6. After dinner we are free to do whatever we want, so it's nice to have some free time at night! All in all it's a pretty easy going job! Copper was a little shell shocked at fist when we came out here, but is fitting in nicely now. He's getting a lot more confident and he can now be pastured with all the other horses. That's pretty much the ranch in a nutshell! I finally got some pictures onto my computer so i'll try to keep posting more often!
